Urban Boho: Governors Ball 2016

When you think bohemian music festival, you probably don’t think big city. Especially not New York. But since 2011, the Governors Ball festival has popped up in New York City itself, within view of the iconic skyline. The fashion is a gorgeous mix of city hipster and the boho cool that landed the festival the nickname ‘Coachella of the East Coast’. It’s become one of the biggest and best festivals in the USA, with the style cred to match. Here’s a roundup of the best boho style on offer at the 2016 Governors Ball.

How gorgeous do these girls look? Fringed jackets are an eternal festival staple and a boho wardrobe essential. Add a sporty flair with bold geometric prints and a great pair of sneakers, then up the style even more with beautiful natural hair.

Nothing screams ‘festival’ more than shimmering sequins and mermaid hair. This outfit popped up on almost every Governors Ball street style review - and for very good reason! The color combination is incredible and those sequins are absolutely stunning.

For something classic but still bohemian-inspired, look no further. This white dress is crisp and classic, but the cold shoulder detail adds a summery bohemian touch. Red lipstick and black sunglasses complete the classic look.

This is old-school bohemian at its best. A 70s-inspired paisley maxi skirt is a bohemian classic, given a new lease of life with tough boots and a basic black tank. Long, casual hair is the perfect finishing touch.

We love all of these ladies outfits, but that denim combo is pure bohemian gold. The cut off shorts, layered bracelets, statement hat and loosely tied bandana all combine for one of the best bohemian festival outfits we’ve seen so far this year.

Does high-low dressing get any better? This lady’s combination of a black printed maxi skirt, basic sweater, baseball cap and boots is inspired. The skirt could have looked like an elegant evening piece, but as part of this outfit it just looks incredibly cool.

If bright colors are more your thing, there were no shortage of those at the Governors Ball either! This gorgeous outfit combines a classic rock t-shirt (with a cropped fit) with a bohemian lace kimono and a bold printed scarf. True bohemian style is all about those little individual details!

Three gorgeous outfits in one! That printed black maxi dress is gorgeous, and looks perfect combined with ankle boots for casual bohemian style. The all-black outfit is given a splash of color with candy pink hair - and how gorgeous is that huge bohemian silver necklace?

How beautiful is this maxi duster? This has to be one of the most beautiful and flexible bohemian fashion items, and this girl shows it off at its best. Plus that hair is just incredible.

Another outfit made up of bohemian wardrobe essentials - a floor length kimono and a faded hat show off the eclectic mixture of styles that makes up bohemian fashion.

Bohemian besties! A sheer kimono can look stunning with an evening dress, or boho beautiful with a plain black mini dress and white sneakers. A tie dye maxi dress is as bohemian as it’s possible to be, especially when combined with gladiator sandals.

Printed blouses are a bohemian wardrobe essential, combined with denim shorts and ankle boots Chikabonita's buffalo goddess blouse is the perfect festival staple. A fringed cross-body bag is the perfect finishing touch.
